Through my own experimentation, I've developed a range of processes and materials for making these leaves, which I'll share with you in this workshop. These will include layering with colour and texture (and even image), distorting, gilding, shaping, and manipulating. There will, of course, be stitching and embellishing. Then you can use any combinations of these to create your own interpretation of the leaves you love.
We'll also discuss possible ways of presenting these leaves, and I'll help you develop your own plan, and method of construction.
You will need : all your usual tools of the trade ... scissors, pins, etc
small amounts of different colours of synthetic organza
any other light weight synthetic fabrics you happen to have
vliesofix ( fusible webbing )
threads for stitching, and needles to suit your threads. ( I use mainly number 8 pearl cotton, plus fine thread for attaching beads, etc. )
beads or embellishments
iron and board
tea light candles, something to stand those on, and matches
If you happen to have a small soldering iron, please bring that along.
I will provide a kit for each student which will contain :
samples of different fabrics suitable for the work were undertaking
images to incorporate into the work if you wish
I will also provide all the necessary equipment to carry out the processes, and some extras to play with.
There will be a charge of $10 to cover all this.
